"POINTS, PLOYS & PLOTS ":

The Southern Graphics Council (SGC) established in 1972, with the purpose to educate the public and promote awareness and appreciation of the art of making original prints, books, hand-made paper, and drawing. The corporation is a resource to educational and non-profi t organizations, universities, and the public at large, providing for the exchange of technical and critical information on the art of printmaking. These goals are furthered through conferences and workshops; through the organization, display and circulation of exhibitions of original prints; through newsletters and journal articles; through awards given to those deserving special recognition for signifi cant contribution to printmaking; and through research, study and general enjoyment of the arts.

The Southern Graphics Council is the largest print organization in North America. Its annual conference is the largest yearly gathering in the fi eld of printmaking. People regularly attend this conference from as far away as Alaska and Hawaii. Attendees also come from Canada, South and Central America, and the United Kingdom.

This year, the SGC was held by the Kansas Art Institute and the Simposium took place at the Hyatt Hotel of Kansas City. Our director Alicia Candiani and Patricia Miani travelled to be part of this event. Alicia was also the organizer and moderator of the "International ploys" pannel. Breda Skarjnec (Slovenia), Ute Rithschel (Germany), Eve Kask (Estonia), Walter Jule (Canada) y John Hitchock (United States) were among its guests. The pannel was presented at a central time at the ballroom of the Hyatt Hotel and the audiencie was wonderful. In the other hand, Proyecto ´ace settled up a stand in the Products Fair and also at the Editors Fair, inside the Open Portfolio. Patricia Miani (International projects Coordinator) was in charge of expanding Proyecto ´ace´s activities among the participants, such as the several artists, professors and art students which attendet the stand. The Pandora Project was also shown to the public at the Open Portfolio. [+info ]
