Even two people living under the same roof will point out different elements of their surroundings as arguments to why exactly they call their house a home. Even though these ideas are always linked to location and material, it is clear that it is mostly a psychological phenomenon, very personal en subjective.
The significance of this place, or rather, this feeling, lies beyond the fundamental need of physical shelter that originates it. In psychology the house or home is often referred to as a universal symbol for the circumstances of one’s life as a whole. It shouldn’t surprise us therefore, that this symbol is very commonly staged in our dreams, possibly deformed and mutilated so far as our frustrations and/or ambitions inspire our subconscious. The place one lives in, and more importantly, the place this place occupies in one's mind, is very determining for an individual, and for a collective of individuals. 'Architecture of the soul' is a first attempt to document these places or structures. It is also an inquiry and a request to the spectator to respond to the imagery and help find more complex and hopefully more accurate representations of this virtual conglomerate.BPDownload full statement
